For local trainers the races didn’t pay as many dividends as they may have banked on, but Gayna Williams did finish with a podium spot in Race 3 of the day.
In one of the battles between her and Port Macquarie’s Marc Quinn, Strong Boy finished just behind the travelling trainer’s Explosive Scene, though both finished behind Contralto’s time.
Twice Williams missed by just a spot, with Continental Drift finishing fourth in Race 2, and the same again for Taking Liberties in Race 4 and Dapperized completed a hat-trick for the fourth spot in Race 6.
For Gulgong’s Brett Thompson it was a short day – Sorry I’m Awesome was scratched from the Maiden Handicap (1600 metres), and that was the local trainer’s only nomination for the day.
David Smith’s Ducal Castle placed 7th in the Class 1 Handicap race as well, with Lee Van Den Bos’s Loves a Hassle taking out the top spot in the fifth race.
