The evening will be held in the Activities Room at Kanandah (Douro Street) from 7pm to 9pm on Monday, May 8.
The decision to enter a residential aged care facility such as Kanandah is often made hastily and is forced by a rapid decline in independence at home.
To leave the family home and perhaps live apart from a partner is a significant decision with a host of emotional and financial considerations.
Furthermore, aged care entry requirements and funding options are complex and it takes potential residents and their families considerable time to work through the rules and regulations of both the government and the aged care facility chosen.
The information evening will cover a range of topics including in-home support, the right time to enter a residential facility, and types of residential accommodation.
A representative of Centrelink will also be on hand to outline government regulations with respect to pensions, asset testing and income testing including the position of the family home.
The thrust of Federal Government policy in recent years is to require individuals to fund more of their own aged care costs.
Government regulations concerning aged care have changed in the last few years and it is important to understand what is and is not possible.
The first step towards entry to an aged care facility is a visit by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). This process will be explained as well.
If you or a member of your family may need aged care in the next five years Kanandah would encourage you to begin the process of understanding what is involved in this very important decision by attending this information evening.
There will be plenty of time to ask questions while refreshments are served.
To assist with catering it would help if you could register your interest in attending the evening by calling the Kanandah office on 6378 6400 or by emailing admin@kanandah.com.au.
