The Mudgee Junior Dragons Under 11 Whites side travelled to Orange to play the previously undefeated Orange CYMS on Saturday.
It was a brisk morning in Orange but things soon heated up on the football field as both teams came flying out of the blocks in a very entertaining and high quality opening 10 minutes with both teams trading converted tries.
Bowen Price was the first try scorer for the Junior Dragons he also made some decisive hit ups, he was well supported by Callan Martin and Logan Murkins starting the sets positively.
Unfortunately, there were a few errors from Mudgee Whites in the first stanza and CYMS threw everything at the Whites but their defence was impregnable.
This resilient defence was ably led by Chad Waller, Demiah Aniuu and Cooper Devin.
Jack Nicholas was at his probing best throughout and made the most of his opportunities scoring three tries throughout the game.
After a quiet start to the year Ned McCarney was effective in steering the team around the park and capitalised on some broken play running to score two crowd pleasing tries, his second on the back of some beautiful evasive work from Gilby Brown.
Xavier Yeo continues to take advantage of quick play the balls as does Brown and defends with purpose.
Will Slack-Smith was industrious throughout and scored a wonderful run away try from his own quarter which had the crowd on it’s feet.
Cooper Gant was busy in attack and Jesse Weaver and Jay O’Brien continue to gain in confidence.
Jim McCarney had his finest defensive display in quite some time and his game highlight was a try from 20 metres out after some great team lead up work.
The side was well supported by the loyal parents and supporters of this team.
They were extremely fortunate to have Isaah Yeo from the Penrith Panthers help with the warm up and give encouragement throughout.
This was another fantastic team effort from a great group of young men who continue to represent the Mudgee community with pride and distinction.
