Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements, and recognising Indigenous Australians' contributions to our country, the Kandos- Rylstone NAIDOC week (July 2-9) celebrations were held at the Kandos Museum, organised by Indigenous elder, Lyn Syme, and Museum coordinators.

The theme of this years’ NAIDOC week celebration was ‘Our Languages Matter’, focusing on the irreplaceable and important role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, cultural history, spirituality and rites through oral history, story and song.
Lyn Syme commenced the celebrations with the ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony, accompanied by her daughter, Emma, who gave a welcoming in traditional Wiradjuri dialect.
Indigenous representatives, Makenzie Martin (5) and her younger sister, Charlie (4) proudly participated in the flag raising ceremony.
The NAIDOC celebrations also commenced the ‘Dabee-Mudgee Travelling Story’ exhibition, currently displayed inside the Museum.
The exhibition displays a very detailed self-guided-walk-through-tour, recognising and celebrating the culture of all Aboriginal Australians and the history of all Australians
