Mudgee Public School has progressed through to the sixth and final round of the Western PSSA Knockout Competition with a tight win over Wellington Public School last Tuesday.

Mudgee travelled to Wellington to do battle with an imposing and skilful opposition. Both teams made simple errors in the opening minutes of the game, handing over possession and field position cheaply.
Mudgee would settle their nerves first and where able to complete consecutive sets to chase a kick downfield to force and error.
A try came eventually as Mudgee continued to apply pressure through clever kicks and strong defence.
Wellington wasn’t going away however, and a strong run from one of the giant Wellington forwards who was able to offload to a supporting player who scored under the posts. The conversion hit the crossbar to leave Mudgee with a slim lead, 6-4.
Wellington scored again and converted to take them to a 6-10 lead over Mudgee.
The Mudgee team was asked to dig deep in the remaining few minutes and, as they have before, the gutsy Mudgee side clawed their way back to score out wide. Jordi Robertson added the two vital points to take Mudgee to a 12-10 lead.
The final five minutes seemed to drag on but Mudgee held onto their lead to remain alive in the knockout competition.
The team has battled hard for close wins over all their competitors on the way; Cudgegong Valley PS 14-12, Dubbo South PS 14-10, Lithgow PS 16-12 and Wellington PS 12-10.
Mudgee Public will face Calare Public School, from Orange, for the chance to be crowned as the best Primary Rugby League team in the Western Public School area.
It has been quite some time since Mudgee Public has made it through to the final round and the boys are keen to go one better.
The game will played at Glen Willow Stadium on Monday 14th August kicking off at 12pm sharp.
The game is guaranteed to be a thriller with future stars of the game on both sides. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
