Miss Whistler, an outside bet at $31 to win, took out the top spot in the EWS/S&N/Daikin Maiden Plate at 1100 metres.

Last October the 3-year-old filly finished third in Wellington for her first place, and the win in Forbes is her first gold finish for Thompson and jockey Greg Ryan.

She even managed to beat out Flux Capacitor, the $2.80 favourite for the race, and Leapin’ Leo ($10) rounded out the top three for the first race of the day at the TAB meeting.

Thompson also placed second in the fourth race of the day with Fairy Fragments ($5.50), falling behind Terry Croft’s No Escape ($2.45F) but beating out Dean Mirfin’s Heroes ($21) in the top three placings.

The second place finish was again a combination with jockey regular Greg Ryan, who had guided Miss Whistler to her win earlier in the day.

Cameron Crockett’s Letchworth also attended the Forbes meet, racing in Forbes Cup, though Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland claimed the win, and his first Forbes feature, on Monday.

Gentleman Max held off a late onslaught from defending champion Zarlu to claim the $30,000 feature.

Thompson’s John D’non ran in the sixth race of the day, the Benchmark 59 Handicap at 1400 metres, but failed to find a place in the event.
