The Reds dominant performance in the opening match saw a 44-point margin send Ghost Squad packing from the finals series.
The win, and the massive margin, was also a shock to the competition considering Ghost Squad entered the elimination matches just four points behind the Reds in the regular season, and it looked like it would be a tight affair to open proceedings.
The red-hot Reds had other plans as they leaped out to a 24-9 lead in the first quarter, adding another 17 points to end the first half with only 6 more points in reply from the Ghost Squad.
A major factor to the huge scoreline was the Ghost Squad’s problems under the basketball, with low accuracy across the entire match.
There was an up-swing in form in the third quarter for Ghost Squad, as the accuracy swung into form, but their 14-point haul was still lower than the Reds’ 20.
The lead was too much for the Ghost Squad, as the Reds extended their lead with 15 more buckets in the last quarter, and the red-hot squad booked their spot in the preliminary final on Monday evening.
In the major semi-final for the evening, Country Physio came up against PCYC and proved that they are still dominant in the B-Grade finals.
Although PCYC led for most of the match, Country Physio held firm to claim a come-from-behind victory.
PCYC began the match with confidence, jumping out to an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, and by the middle of the second quarter the lead had broken to ten points.
Country Physio ended the first half on the front foot however, bringing the match back to a 4-point ball game at 26-22 heading into the break.
The momentum that Physio ended the first half on continued into the third quarter of the game as they took the lead with a 12-4 quarter, and set themselves in good stead with a 34-30 scoreline as the final quarter loomed.
PCYC knew that they had to up the tempo of the game if they wanted to make their way into the grand final, but their every move was matched by the classy Country Physio outfit to close out the final quarter with 15-12.
The 49-41 victory for Country Physio puts them in the driver’s seat in the grand final.
PCYC will now meet the in-form Reds in the preliminary final on Monday night.
