The $200,000 Anniversary Highway (1400m) will be held for country horses that have competed in a Highway Handicap at some point since its inception.
Mudgee trainers Gayna Williams and Mack Griffith will have runners, with Galaxy Warrior and Puzzling Wonder respectively. Not For Export – trained by Dubbo’s Dar Lunn – is another runner from the central west accepted.
Such was the interest in the Anniversary Highway, a massive amount of nominations were received, Racing NSW’s hand was forced.
They responded by adding a new race to Saturday’s program, the $100,000 Highway Consolation (1400m).
The race was dependent on there being sufficient acceptances for it to be run, with all nominations from the $200,000 Anniversary Highway (1400m) being automatically nominated for the Highway Consolation. Griffith’s Schedule will contest the race, which will open Saturday’s racing.
Galaxy Warrior, is a last start winner taking out the 1400m at Dubbo on September 29, with jockey Grant Buckley who will be on board Saturday. While Puzzling Wonder ran sixth in Muswellbrook on October after being freshened seven weeks, prior to that won a Class 3 plate at Doomben.
