President Buzz Sanderson said the Railway Station is an important part of the fabric of Kandos that now sits vacant.
“The Museum, together with its partners Lithgow State Mine Railway, is looking to ramp up train based tours to the Kandos-Rylstone district in 2018, so we intend to use the station for the very purpose that it was built – a railway station,” he said.
“For us, this is a five-plus year commitment to develop the visitor economy in our district. We see plenty of challenges ahead but we also see plenty of opportunities, we are very excited by this development.”
A petition of 1200 signatures calling for the reopening of the Kandos-Rylstone rail link for heritage and tourism purposes, was presented to Member for Bathurst Paul Toole in May.
A Mudgee Guardian poll on May 29 showed 95.16 per cent of the 124 voters agreed the Kandos-Rylstone rail line should be reopened.
