Gulgong unleashes with T20 matches

It may have taken until Round 4 to get a match, but Goolma finally began their 2017-18 season and they did it with a win over RSL in the first of the Gulgong T20 games.

The village side won the toss and elected to bat and openers Donald Hearn (42) and Jason Warner (16) had 41 on the board before they were split.

Stellar knocks by Andrew Best (74 n.o) and Stuart Bromley (69) hleped steer the side towards a competitive total.

Goolma finished the 20 overs at 5/218.

RSL’s Mick Jarvis got the breakthrough wicket and finished with figures of 1/29 from his four overs. Cameron McDonnell and Michael Kersten took 1/39 each, both also off of four overs, Ben Campbell 1/28 from two overs.

Shaun Doherty (1/13) shook the chase up with his early scalp, before Brett Doherty (2/20, with a maiden) and Byron Jackson (2/9) ripped through the RSL order.

They finished well short at 5/84, the bulk of their total coming from Kersten’s 49.

Meanwhile, Centennial came within two runs of catching Bowlers in a tight finish to their clash at Billy Dunn Oval.

The Bowlers’ top order failed to fire, their first four batsmen dismissed for just 16 runs between them. Before Greg Reid’s 64 n.o and David Lumsden’s 42 n.o saved the innings and post a competative total of 134.

Cody Lawson sent both openers back to pavilion during his 2/16, while Lachlan Rayner (1/20) and Tim Papworth  1/33, were Centennial’s wicket takers.

Reid then unleashed with the ball, taking 4/27 from his four overs, Shaun Lumsden was tight during his stint with 2/8 and a maiden, Josh Carev 2/30, and David Lumsden 1/ 4.

Centennial had the chance to pull off an unlikely last wicket partnership win, before Anthony Furney was stumped off the bowling of Mark Gorrie with the chase at 132.
