Let’s do this for Ozzy

Before 2016, Mudgee’s pennants side hadn’t won a division one title in 109 years.

Today, Josh Campbell’s crew seeks its third title in-a-row and looks towards pivotal semi finals clash with Cowra on Sunday.

“We don’t know any of their players,” Campbell said.

"We probably took last week a bit lightly so we’ve got to be switched on for this one.”

One of the team goals for 2018 is to give John Osborn his first pennants triumph as he hasn’t tasted title success yet.

“Ozzy’s been at Mudgee forever and he hasn’t won one yet,” said Mark Hale.

“We’d love to get a win for him.”

The unfamiliarity Mudgee’s boys have with Cowra might work in their favour considering they touted Wentworth as an easy beat last week, only to scrape past them by the skin of their teeth.

After Hale described this weekend’s opponents as ‘quiet achievers’, the whole team is preparing for a stiff challenge at Dubbo this weekend.

Mudgee’s second tier pennants side is also riding a wave of success as Fabian Wright’s unit is poised to win back-to-back titles after breaking a 37-year drought in 2017.

Ozzy's been at Mudgee forever and he hasn't won one yet. We'd love to get a win for him.

Division two plays Parkes this weekend and while Wright isn’t overlooking the upcoming challenge, he’s identified the undefeated Dubbo side as a powerhouse.

“Dubbo looks really strong. They’ve made the finals across all four divisions.” Wright said.

For both Mudgee sides to make it this far is a great achievement but Mark Hale isn’t prepared to settle for anything less than a third consecutive title.

“Oh, yeah… we want to win it for sure,” Hale grinned.

“I think I speak for all of the boys when I say we’ll be disappointed with anything less than the title.”
