The Cooks Gap resident and his canine companion have just returned from a trip to Whanganui on the North Island with impressive results.
“Tallisman ran second and third in his group at the long and short-haired competition at the Takapau Sheep Dog Club,” Geoffrey explained.
Around 400 dogs took part in the competition which included a 600-metre short run, up a mountain.
“They have to gather the sheep, bring them back down to a holding circle, then you put them through some obsolesces and put them in a pen,” Geoffrey said.
The lack of New Zealand style mountains in the Mudgee region to train Tallisman didn’t stop the pair from taking on the challenge.
“This has been on my bucket list – to go over there with a dog and compete against them. People thought I was mad,” he laughed. “Not too many Aussies venture over there and do what I’ve done.”
