The NRMA has predicted regional fuel prices will remain stable over the holiday period with prices across the Central West varying from under 120 cents per litre to more than 150 cents in the worst areas.
Cowra and Lithgow were the best places to purchase unleaded and diesel fuel in the lead up to the long weekend while Dubbo, Forbes and Parkes joined Mudgee among the dearest.
“Fuel prices in the western region have been fairly stable over the past few weeks and the good news is we don’t expect prices to rise over the long weekend,” NRMA Spokesperson Saoirse Connolly said.
“In regional areas there is no price cycle like in metropolitan areas so prices tend to move in accordance with global factors.
“Crude oil prices are currently rising due to a number of factors including ongoing cuts in supply by OPEC and non-OPEC producers, world political issues and price speculation due to impending US tariffs.”
Ms Connolly advised shopping around to find the best price, either around town or by checking all towns if on a holiday.
“As of close of business yesterday some regional towns in western NSW had a difference in price of 10 to 15 cents a litre depending on what service station you fill up at so do your research, plan your trip and by using the NRMA app you will be able to find the cheapest petrol at a location closest to you,” she said.
On Wednesday, E10 blend fuel could be purchased for 117.9 cents at the Midtown and Enhance service stations in Lithgow, while it was available for 120.7 at the United at Cowra.
Mudgee’s cheapest E10 was 134.9 at the Shell on the Sydney Road while the best price for regular unleaded was 137.9 at the same location.
At the opposite end of the scale Forbes and Parkes were among the most expensive in the Central West at 135.9 and 136.9 respectively.
Diesel was several cents more expensive across the board but Cowra was again the cheapest at 125.9. Lithgow was the next best with a lowest of 127.9.
Mudgee and Dubbo were the places to avoid, with 139.9 and 137.7 the best price for diesel at those respective towns.
