Cowra Magpies second-rower and 2018 captain Josh Rainbow says defeat this week would spoil Sunday’s stunning 38-6 victory over last year’s grand finalist Oberon Tigers.

Rainbow’s determined to build the momentum gathered from round one when they take on Orange Hawks in a second home game at Sid Kallas Oval this Sunday afternoon.
“We did all the little things last week so if everyone backs that up we should get over the line again. Hopefully we have plenty of support again too,” Rainbow said.
Getting the better of Oberon’s star-studded forwards gave the likes of Joey Bugg, Jeremy Gordon and Benji John plenty of opportunities to impose themselves on the game last week, resulting in the Magpies piling on 38 points.
Rainbow wants to make it as difficult as possible for Hawks to score points too, and he’s calling on his fellow forwards to again get the better of their opposites.
“Our defence was really good to the point that [Oberon] had nothing. As a whole I thought it was really good. I was very happy but it means nothing unless we back it up this week,” Rainbow said.
“If we do our job in defence again and we get over them it’ll give Joey [Bugg] and Jeremy [Gordon] a chance to have some fun again.
“[Hawks] have recruited. Willie [Heta] plays off the back of their forwards and they have some ability in the backs so they should be good.”
Sunday marked Rainbow’s first match back for the Magpies at Sid Kallas Oval after a three-year stint at the Blayney Bears. He said the lure was to wear the black and white in front of his hometown crowd again.
“Mainly I just wanted to come back home. I work over here so I don’t have to travel now, but mainly it was just to come and play footy back at home,” the 25-year-old captain said. The Magpies and Hawks are set for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday with the ladies’ league tag at 10am. Coach Steve Sutton said there’s likely to be some positional changes.
