Two-year-old Liam Potts was recently diagnosed with the rare form of brain cancer and the community has rallied behind him and his family as he undergoes treatment.

The latest event, Liam’s RIDE has been planned for May 26, by Gerzurgan, the organisers of the annual Toy Run, and Cudgegong Cruisers Inc. 

The day begins at 9am with a barbecue breakfast at the Railway Station and sign up for the dice run. It is also a chance to check out the assembled vehicles before the ride departs at 10.30am.

Riders will then head down Church Street and onto Ulan then the Commercial Hotel in Gulgong and finish at the farm at Gezurgan (Hargraves, return via Mudgee) for an evening of music raffles and camping and mates.

Wayne Honeysett said when the idea of an event to help Liam was brought to the Gerzurgans, “our first thought was to get the Mudgee Toy Run and Cudgegong Cruisers onboard”.

Getting the group on board has helped it all come together rather quickly.

“All three groups have been raising money for local people over the last 39 years,” he said.

The Gerzurgan Vintage Riders are coming off their successful Meltdown recently and so far this year have already donated $2,470 to White Ribbon, $918 to Car 89 in the Variety Bash, and thousands more to several more locals who’ve suffered an accident and health issues.

They’ve donated to $500 to Liam’s family, with more to come after they received some cash donations from the public.

The GoFundMe account, set up by ‘Aunty Shayna, Aunty Chloe and Aunty Jess’ has already raised over $35,000.
