At 12.10pm, the Hercules will conduct a flypast of Mudgee Airport, approaching from the South and flying parallel to the grass runway at an altitude of 75 metres.
The Air Force Hot Air Balloon will also be in attendance at this event, holding tethered flights for the public throughout the day.
The RAAF uses Hot Air Balloons to engage with regional and remote communities, supporting aviation-related education programs and allowing the public to meet Air Force personnel.
The Hercules conducting the flypast of Mudgee is from No. 37 Squadron at RAAF Base Richmond in Sydney’s northwest.
These aircraft are used to provide tactical airlift of personnel, cargo and equipment to Defence operations, and are capable of airdrop of cargo by parachute, and landing on austere runways.
They can also conduct search and rescue missions and aero-medical evacuation of sick and wounded.
Whilst the C-130J was introduced to RAAF service in 1999, generations of Defence personnel have operated and supported different models of the Hercules since December 1958.
Please note that Air Force participation in this event is subject to variables including weather and operational availability, and may be subject to cancellation at short notice.
The 15th running of the biennial event will be hosted by the Mudgee Aero Club with Paul Bennet Airshows.
A variety of impressive aircraft will put on a number of displays in the skies above Mudgee Airport. For the motor enthusiast there will be a display of all types of interesting vehicles. For the connoisseurs, a number of the region’s winemakers offering product tasting and sales.
