Rachel was awarded the prize for her oil on canvas titled “Spring Musing” that judge Graham Cox described as “a real delight of a painting with beautiful colour and atmosphere”.
He chose it from 236 entries in the competition’s hanging art category. Graham Cox, an acclaimed artist whose work is represented in public and private collections both in Australia and overseas, went on to say, “the artist has painted a difficult subject and has succeeded brilliantly”.
The $3000 IB VOGT photography prize was awarded to Jason McDonald from Hargraves for his work “Vulnerable Circle of Life”. Judge Jenet Stewart chose the work from 90 entries and described it as “a beautiful photographic piece with outstanding design elements”. She went on to say “the photographer has not only gathered and captured intricate pieces of the bush but has presented them in such an outstanding way that I was continually drawn to it”.
The $3000 Art Unlimited ceramics prize was won by Ros Auld of Borenore for “The Shape of Land”. Ros also won this prize in 2014. It was described by judge Ro Francis as “painstakingly constructed, cleverly combining dramatic balance and proportion”.
The exhibition will be open to the public every day from 9.30am to 4.30pm until Sunday, May 27, at Dunedoo Central School hall, Digilah Street, Dunedoo.
