Malcolm and Margaret Roth raised the money for the Mudgee Lions Club throughout the centenary celebration of the Melbourne Cup winner. The Lions then passed the donation on to Care Flight.
John Ebbott of the organisation was blown away by just what was achieved by the group and individuals involved.
“As a Lion myself I know that quite a bit of work goes into putting on an event like that and to raise a significant amount of money like this is not an easy thing to do,” he said. “And without that we just can’t afford to do the work that we do saving lives across Australia and our training.”
Westcourt won the 1917 Melbourne Cup and was owned by Mr Du Seaton of Mudgee, who previously owned the property now known as Westcourt. And the centenary celebration late last year was a success with over 150 guests.
“It was a wonderful event,” Mr Roth said.
