On Saturday April 21, the Kandos Waratahs opened their 2018 New Era Midwest Cup campaign in abysmal fashion when they were on the wrong end of a Blackcats ambush.

Blackheath, which has since established itself as the out-and-out competition benchmark, hammered Kandos 68-8 in the season’s first game.
Since then, the Tahs have accrued a pair of wins (over Portland and Lithgow) and are in much better stead ahead of their second meeting with Blackheath.
The sides will meet again on Saturday at Kandos as the season schedule will roll over in round six, seeing all sides meet each other again.
The Waratahs are only worried about their own game though as a repeat result of round one is an unacceptable outcome.
The red and greens will be buoyed by home-field advantage as they’ve only played one game at their place – a 44-16 win over Portland.
The side from the Blue Mountains has been unprecedentedly dominant so far this season, conceding just 18 points through five games – an incredible defensive average of just 3.6 points conceded per game.
As it turns out, Kandos is the only team to score over 6 points against Blackheath this season and the Waratahs are quietly confident they can bag a meat pie or two again on Saturday.
“Defence has been our biggest turnaround,” Kandos forward Nathan Annetts said.
“We bashed Portland through the middle and made inroads against CSU and our attack benefits off that.”
“We need an even share of possession on Saturday and our defence needs to stick together like it has in the last three weeks.”
Amid the constant rumblings about the CSU league tag side, the Kandos Tiaratahs are quietly going about their business and notched up their fourth win of the season against Lithgow on Saturday.
The Tiarahs have had an excellent start to the season despite playing a host of first-years.
They enter their upcoming clash with the Cats as short favourites after beating them comprehensively in the opening round of the season.
The girls kick-off at 1.30 before the boys take centre stage at 2.30.
