The Terriers got away to a flyer and were leading 18 points to nil early in proceedings but with just minutes remaining it was 30 all ball game.
Both teams went at each other in a desperate bid to secure the competition points, but it was to be a last gasp converted try to the home side that saw them take victory.
The Gulgong ladies scored a 26-12 win in the league tag, with Chloe Pennell and Tayla Riley scoring a pair of tries each, Lolley Tumpey also crossing and kicking two goals along with Dayna Manley kicking a goal as well.
The Terriers will need to regroup when they host defending premiers Gilgandra Panthers this Saturday, who are coming off a second shock loss in a row, this time to Binnaway. The defeat kept the local side on top of the ladder.
