Sean Terry Drury, 21, was found guilty of unlawfully entering enclosed lands and larceny in relation to the theft of $2000 worth of electrical copper cabling from Excelsior Limestone Quarry on April 11 this year.
The quarry, which was owned by Sibelco Australia Ltd and was not in use at the time of the offence, had previously been a target of theft. The court heard cabling with a replacement value of between $10,000-$15,000 had been stolen in February.
As a result, cameras were installed at the site which recorded the April 11 theft. The site manager found a large amount of cabling had been removed from a large conveyor belt leading from the mine pit to the sorting plant.
Drury was identified from the footage by police and he was arrested on April 20.
He was fined $400 for entering enclosed lands and will be eligible for release on December 19 this year.
