The Bligh Picnic races have been an ongoing tradition in Mudgee since 1878 and on Saturday, the event will take place from 1pm at the Mudgee Racecourse for the 140th time.
It has a long history as one of the most glamorous sporting and social events of the year in the Mudgee district, which was originally spread over two days of picnic racing as well as an evening ball.
The event is set to attract over 500 people and publicity officer Lizzy Galloway says it’s an awesome event to be a part of.
“Anyone can be a part of the fun without having to join,” she said.
“It’s a family atmosphere with food and drinks. For $20 they can come and enjoy all the racing and be part of history by just turning up on the day.”
