This year’s theme “Men and Families: Making Healthy Connections”, puts a specific focus on the different ways families support the health and wellbeing of men and boys, and the positive contributions men and boys make to their families (of origin and choice).
MHERV will be at The Stables car park (Market Street, Mudgee) and have a registered nurse on board, offering a series of free, quick and non-invasive health checks for; blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, Body Mass Index (height, weight and girth) and urine analysis.
Many of the leading causes of death for Australian males (at most ages) are linked to poor lifestyle choices, so men and their families can play a big role in improving the status of men’s health in Australia.
Australian Men’s Shed Association executive officer, David Helmers, said creating a My Health Record is one way men can be proactive about their health and make it a priority this Men’s Health Week.
And will make it easier for men who may find visiting healthcare professionals difficult or uncomfortable.
My Health Record is a secure online summary of a person’s health information that can be accessed at any time by the individual and their healthcare providers.
“We know that men often avoid having conversations about their health – particularly when those conversations involve visiting a healthcare provider,” Mr Helmers said.
“My Health Record takes some of the pain out of keeping a consistent record of our health and is a great platform for ongoing health management.
“Right from the get-go males are more likely to be involved in accidents or become ill, so as we age, it becomes even more important to stay on top of health information.”
