After Dave Birch bagged three tries at Blayney in round nine, Scott Hedrick was the newest Battie to put his hand up and cross for multiple tries, scoring a double in his side’s 31-25 win at Dubbo’s at Apex Oval on Saturday.
The win over the Rhinos sees Mudgee bring their 2018 winning percentage to 50 as they’ve won five games with as many fixtures remaining.
A content Tom Dunstan reflected on the single-digit win after the match.
“There were a lot of mistakes today but obviously it was good to come away with the win in the end,” he said.
“When we got down to it it was just our game play. We stuck to our structure and when we did that we were going forward and we managed to put a lot of points on.”
Scott Hedrick’s double proved pivotal for the Batties and according to the skipper, he was one of many players that put their best foot forward.
“Hedrick played an absolute blinder,” Dunstan said.
“Our second rowers [Michael Ferris and George Fletcher] were actually put in on Thursday so they're not normally there and I thought they both really stepped up and did really well.
“It's really great to get two away wins in a row and that's three in a row for us which is great this time of year. It gives us a bit of a buffer now and also now we get a few home games which are worth two points. It's really good to get a few wins on the board."
Mudgee’s second grade unit enjoyed its seventh win of the season, a 46-19 drumming of the Rhinos.
The Mudgee Wombats will return to The Burrow in Round 11 for a Saturday afternoon showcase against the red hot Narromine Gorillas.
