Their most recent financial contribution came in the way of a $3,000 cheque presented to the Blayney Rams club, supporting Josh Farr, a Rams player who is currently in rehab after a car accident in 2017.
The money was raised during Mudgee’s old boys day on May 26th and after donating $3,000 to help Luke Smith, who tragically passed away a few weeks before the event, they gave the other half to a fellow New Holland Agriculture Cup.
“We’re really trying to bond all the teams together and show everyone what the rugby community is about,” Wombats player Dave Birch said.
“There are six teams in this comp from small country towns and each have amazing people behind the scenes that are really driving the spirit of the game.”
Allison Farr, the mother of Josh, was incredibly appreciative of Mudgee’s kindness.
“When we were initially contacted by Dave Birch we weren’t sure why they would want to do this,” she said.
“We couldn’t believe a club would be so generous when they don’t even really know us.
“Such is the rugby community that these wonderful people were willing to donate some much needed and even more appreciated funds to help us.
“We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the care and support that we have received since Josh’s accident and acts like this will further strengthen the bond between the Wombats and the Rams.”
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the amount was $10,000.
