10-year-old Portia Medley, will, on July 6 will undergo the buzzers as she says goodbye to her long locks as her part in the Worlds Greatest Shave fundraising event.
She first came across the idea when one of her cousins did it approximately two years ago, and knows of no girl who will have done the same.
When asked how she feels about shaving all of her hair off of which is down to her bottom in length, Portia did not seem phased in the slightest.
“I’m just super excited to do it, it’s something I have always wanted to do,” Portia said.
Parents Michelle and Rob Medley were not surprised at all when Portia approached them about the idea.
They say it is just the type of person she is.
“We need more people like her in the world,” Ms Medley said.
“I wish I could be half the person she is.”
There was no temptation from just getting her hair coloured or cut as Portia was very adamant it was all going from the very beginning.
We need more people like her in the world. I wish I could be half the person she is.
- Michelle Medley
Her hair is that long she will be giving enough to create two wigs 30cm each in length.
Portia is involved in a lot of charity work especially at school as a result of her own initiative and desire to help others.
“It makes me really proud of Portia,” Mr Medley said.
“Portia is a thoughtful, friendly, confident but not too overpowering type of person,” Ms Medley said.
The original amount for fundraising was initially set at $1,000 however after reaching that in the first four days, the goal has now been set for $5,000.
