Mr Chidgey was presented with a NSW United Grand Lodge Certificate for 50 years on Saturday, June 23 at his home.
Mr Chidgey began his career as a Freemason on the 22nd May, 1968 at Lodge Engadine and after progressing through ranks, he saw himself become Master of the Lodge of the period between 1977 and 1978.
10 years later, Roy and wife Camelia Chidgey relocated to Cooks Gap which led Mr Chidgey to transfer his membership and become a member of Lodge Wyaldra in 1989.
After carrying out service with Lodge Wyaldra for an additional 18 years, Mr Chidgey became Master of the Lodge in 2007 to 2008, and once again from 2012 to 2013.
Mrs Chidgey often found herself looking after members of Lodge Wyaldra for many years cooking and serving them supper at their monthly meeting and special functions.
"I have always been so proud of my Dad for his involvement in the Masonic Lodge, especially his dedication to us..."
Mrs Chidgey and daughter of Roy Chidgey, Margaret Chidgey said being a Freemason attributed to many aspects of his life.
“Roy has made many lifelong friends through the Masonic Lodge. He learnt to respect others opinions...and to look after and appreciate his family and friends,” Mrs and Ms Chidgey said.
Some of the most fond memories Mr Chidgey can recall are those of social events including Balls and Ladies Nights, as well as the fete the combined Lodges would hold.
Mr Chidgey’s reasoning for become a Freemason had largely to do with friends and family already being a part, as well as what the title beholds.
“He knew that Freemasonary was a world known fellowship, a fraternity where each member has his own beliefs in Religion and Politics and they endeavoured to help each other and many charitable organisations,” Mrs and Ms Chidgey said.
For daughter Margaret, she always had great pride in her father's achievements and his dedication to the Masonic Lodge.
“I have always been so proud of my Dad for his involvement in the Masonic Lodge, especially his dedication to us, his family and of course to always helping others,” Ms Chidgey said.
2018 has also seen Mr Chidgey become a Life Member of Lodge Wyaldra, corresponding with his 50 years service.
Mr Chidgey’s health doesn’t allow him to be an active member within the Lodge. However, his life long membership to Lodge Wyaldra will allow him to keep in contact with fellow members and news updates within the Lodge.
