These are the three Mid-Western players that represented the region during the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) rugby league championships at Glen Willow Oval on Tuesday-Thursday.
While Fisher and Ainuu represented Western, Nicholas donned a Polding jersey as he played for the Northern Catholic representative side.
The event brought the 13 best primary school sides to Mudgee with Sydney West emerging victorious after a dominant campaign.
Nicholas and his Polding troops fell to eventual winners Sydney West in the semi finals on Thursday after amassing a 5-1 record with its only loss coming against MacKillop on day one.
Polding made amends on Thursday afternoon, besting Sydney North 22-6 and earning third place.
Western’s campaign didn’t run as smoothly with the boys in red notching just one win and one draw after falling short in a few hotly contested games.
Like Polding, Western bounced back after the pool stage to finish ninth with a hard-fought 12-8 win over North West.
St Matthew’s also fielded an invitational side on Thursday, falling short to Hunter 30-0 in match that wasn’t as lopsided as the margin suggested.
The three-day event wouldn’t have been possible without the ongoing support of the Mudgee Dragons, Mid-Western Regional Council, New South Wales Catholic Primary School Sports, New South Wales Rugby League, National Rugby League, New South Wales Primary School Sports Association, St Matthew’s Catholic School, NRL Emerging Referees Academy and team managers and officials from the competing schools.
