The function was highlighted by replays of old interviews and audio clips since the station first went on air in July of 1938.

It’s a significant accomplishment for the station that currently features several local voices such as Craig Bassett and Chris Mills.
Bassett, who described the celebrations as ‘a nostalgia trip over the past 80 years’, said it’s an important accomplishment considering the changes over the 80-year period.
“For a particular media brand to be continuously broadcasting for that long is obviously an accomplishment,” Bassett said.
“In the early days of radio broadcasting most of the material was either on discs, 78 records and you did a lot of live broadcasts with in-house performances.”
The other big thing that’s changed in the industry – since television came along – was the move to more of a pop music format.”
With an initial capital of £5000, the Mudgee Broadcasting Company Pty Ltd now features local and national programs such as Bassett’s breakfast show and John Laws’ morning show.
Despite the changes that have occurred since arriving at the station 17 years ago, Bassett said he still enjoys the tasks presented to him every day at 2MG.
“I think I enjoy the challenge that not every day’s the same… I might be on air the same time every weekday but every shift is different, every shift can present different challenges or there’s different news happening.”
“With everything being computerised it frees up more time to concentrate on what content we’re actually doing.
“We’re able to focus on better interviews and conducting more research for that time when we’re talking to people.”
