The NSW SES is a volunteer-based organisation whose major responsibilities are for flood and storm emergencies, but also provide a variety of assistance across the state.
Maddie Thurlow of the local unit said the volunteers are only too happy to have a chat and there’s plenty to do at site 522 at the Field Days today and tomorrow.
“We have lots of stuff for the kids, like ring toss, showbags, lollipops and colouring-in sheets, and our mascot Paddy will be around,” she said.
“And for parents we’ve got information on how to be safe when a storm hits and how to prevent damage.
“This year we’ve chosen to go with what the SES does as a whole – not just storms and floods.
“We want to make people more aware of what we do as a service and to make sure they know when to call in an emergency.”
With another three months to go until the official storm season (October to March) now is the time to take care of all of those jobs around your home property to prepare it for the wilder and woollier weather.
So if you’re at the Field Days and would like some tips on how to prepare drop into site 522 and talk to the local volunteers.
Look for the orange.
For emergency help in storms and floods call 132 500, if the situation life-threatening call triple-zero (000).
