A spiritual smoking of every person in the large, crowd began the proceedings, then the welcoming in Wiradjuri language.
The proceedings were run by Peter Swain, Wiradjuri-Dabee, who was born in Rylstone.
The Aboriginal flag was raised by Emma Syme and Charlie and Richard Williams danced, “Life from the Beginning”.
Visitors noted the great dignity and reverence that was experienced during the mornings events.
Rylstone Artist on Hospital Mural
Work on the Aboriginal Mural in the new section of the Rylstone Hospital has begun.
Straight after conducting the NAIDOC week opening ceremony, Peter Swain and Gavan Jones, Biraban country, Newcastle, were back at work on the special mural that guides visitors to specialist parts of the hospital.
The mural will be completed for the official opening, later this year.
Water Cut Off
Rylstone’s water supply will be cut today, from 9am until 3.30pm.
The Mid Western Regional Council work crews will be doing Water Mains Repairs. A Water Supply Interruption Notice was sent to all households, forewarning residents of the inconvenience.
Chilly Start to Rylstone Markets
When the coffee van arrived at the markets on Saturday a queue quickly developed for a warm coffee, but the disappointed crowd had to wait for the water to thaw.
It was minus five in Rylstone. Eventually all came good and the markets progressed nicely.
KRR-FM Winter Gathering
A happy crew enjoyed a beautiful BBQ at the KRR’s studio last Saturday. With tender steak and the snags, ‘Just right’, lunch was enjoyed by all.
President, Brent Barlow gave a short speech thanking the announcers for their great range of music and the professional standards set.
KRR has been operating since 1994 and the 4-6pm slot “Teenage Rampage”, needs new members, so join the fun crowd and play the music you like. 63794360
Troopys Invade Rylstone
Last Friday lunch time a large number of Toyota Landcruiser Troopys were parked in Rylstone.
The Troopy Club is having a gathering at Glen Davis where over 200 Landcruisers, from all over Australia, are anticipated to attend.
Organisers have gathered eleven tonnes of wood for fires to keep the visitors warm.
