Matthew Riley, aged 37, of Meroo Crescent, Mudgee, was fined $220 and disqualified for three months for the offence. He tested positive to the drug when stopped at the intersection of Denison and Paterson streets, at about on March 23, 2018.
In noting the charge and the drug in question, Magistrate Day said, “well it wouldn’t be Mudgee without this offence”.
Andrew Marc Laszlo Lorant, aged 29, of Market Street, was convicted in his absence, fined a total of $660 and disqualified for three months when he failed to appear on two counts of the charge.
In other news:
He was tested positive to methamphetamine on April 6, 2018, after when police saw his vehicle parked over the marked line in Church Street. And again when he was stopped for random breath and drug testing in Church Street on April 26.
Lorant was fined a further $220 and ordered to pay $148 in compensation for a charge of larceny. On May 22, he stole a drone battery from Harvey Norman, the incident was captured on the store’s CCTV footage and he was subsequently questioned by police.
During sentencing, Magistrate Day read out Lorant’s comments to officers during which he admitted to the theft and intending to sell it for drug money.
