Research into Mudgee and the Central West has revealed the employment growth areas forecast for the region over the next three years, include construction, aged care, early childhood care and real estate industries.

The study was conducted by TAFE NSW.
Deputy regional general manager, Adam Bennett, said the predicted growth is down to a number of factors.
“This includes the fact that the Central West, Far West and Orana regions have the highest skill shortage rates in NSW,” he said.
“Add to this our aging population and there’s a number of large upcoming investments in the region, and these factors all open the doors to many exciting potential employment opportunities.
“In the Central West we have a very diverse economy, with strong activity in technology and business, supply chain and eCommerce, health, wellbeing and community services and agriculture.
“With the extension and construction of new transport corridors, and the construction and development of a number of new and improved health care facilities, this will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers.”

- The labor force is expected to grow by more than 400 people from 2018-2021.
- Employment is forecast to grow by more than 1150 jobs from 2018-2021.
- The unemployment rate is forecast to decline 0.3 percentage points to 5.4 per cent from 2018-2021.
- Health, wellbeing and community services is forecast to have the biggest employment increase over the 2018-2021 period with around 1670 additional workers (or 4.0 per cent increase).
- Around 200 additional aged or disabled carers are forecast over the 2018-2021 period (5.6 per cent increase).
- Employment in the Technology and business service industry is forecast to increase by 1580 workers (or 3.6 per cent).
- The number of real estate agents in Western NSW is forecast to increase by 10.2 per cent, compared to an 8 per cent increase for NSW.
- Employment in Infrastructure, energy and construction is forecast to increase by 1110 workers (or 2.7 per cent).
