Council has been working with the NSW Health Needle Cleanup Hotline to locate a number of dumped syringes following a call from a resident last week.
Despite two attempts by Council teams to locate the items they weren’t able to be found due to limited information received from a local.
Council has since found the syringes and they have been removed and safely disposed.
Council’s General Manager Brad Cam said the dumping of syringes was unnecessary and extremely dangerous.
“This extremely reckless behaviour has endangered the community and Council staff who removed the syringes from the river,” Mr Cam said.
“It is further disappointing as Council has sharps disposal units in a number of public locations including the public toilets at Percy Nott Park Mudgee, Rylstone Showground public toilets, Kandos public toilets on Angus Avenue opposite Rotunda Park and the public toilets at Gulgong Apex Park.”
Council continues to encourage residents to report any problems to Council by telephone on 6378 2850 or online via a Works Request that can be found on Council’s home page.
