On arrival at the Centre she was greeted by Kevin Robson and his wife Jan. Kevin and Jan have been running the Centre for the past 20 years.
In a speech the Premier commented on how impressed she was with what she saw there and went on to present Kevin with a cheque for $10,000.
Kevin said he was very surprised because he hadn’t expected to receive any money.
“I must admit I was so overcome with her generosity that I shed a tear” he said.
Over the years the Henry Lawson Centre has been donated many rare and valuable books and as there was nowhere to keep them they have been stored in a locked cupboard.
Kevin had been in the process of having cabinets made for these books and because they were so expensive it was going to be a two year plan.
“Now with the $10,000 and some donations we have received we will not have to wait and we can have the books on show in the new Research area in the second room of the Centre” Kevin said.
Before she departed Kevin presented a book of Henry Lawson prose to the Premier and by the look on her face she was delighted with the gesture.
Kevin although 80 years old and recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease is still one hundred percent committed to maintaining and improving this wonderful education centre to be enjoyed by generations to follow.
