“Black spots in Calare have been a source of irritation for quite some time, so it’s great to see them being cleared up,” Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee said.
“They are an impediment to country business expansion and can be downright dangerous in an emergency when help is needed fast.
“It’s vitally important that we keep chipping away at these black spots.”
The Mobile Black Spot Program is delivering 867 new base stations over three rounds addressing black spots in every state and territory.
Telstra Area General Manager Mike Marom said the new Grattai station will address the notorious black spot in the area.
And that in areas where the more than 450 mobile base stations have already been delivered by the company, residents have been taking full advantage of the reception.
“So far, more than 60 million calls have been made and more than 2,500 terabytes of data have been downloaded thanks to these new base stations, showing how important connectivity is to regional and remote communities,” Mr Marom said.
“As well as delivering immediate benefits to the community, the new mobile base station at Grattai readies the region for future rollouts of new technologies, such as 5G.”
State Member for Dubbo Troy Grant has welcomed the activation of the mobile tower in Grattai.
“Improving mobile connectivity for people in the Dubbo electorate and regional NSW is critical for business, access to emergency services and staying in touch with family and friends.” Mr Grant said.
Minister for Regional Communications, Bridget McKenzie, said, “the Mobile Black Spot Program is so important for our regions”.
“This new infrastructure will enable those living in regional areas to participate in the digital economy and conduct business, as well as access important education and health services across the country,” Minister McKenzie said.
“It is delivering much needed new investment in mobile infrastructure across regional Australia to address mobile coverage issues. It’s fantastic to see that the program is reaching more and more communities across the country, like Grattai.”
