Gulgong has been honoured this week by two legends of the music industry. Firstly Justice Crew the singing and dance group who came to fame ten years ago when they won “Australia’s Got Talent.” Since then the group have been performing all over the world touring with people such as Janet Jackson, Chris Brown, One Direction and Pit Bull. In Australia alone they have sold over 1.8million records. The group were booked into Parklands Resort last Friday night as part of their “So-long” tour. To the delight of the students of Gulgong High the group made an impromptu visit to Gulgong High school on Friday morning where they performed for the students.

I spoke to Lukas Bellesini who is one of the original Justice Crew and the lead of the group and asked him why the visit to Gulgong. He replied “As we tour we like to visit with as many teenagers as we can. Each member of the group has been in a situation where he could have drifted off the tracks so we are in a position to show the kids that you can live a healthy fulfilling life through exercise be it dance or other forms of activity.” Judging by the response from the students to the group I am sure they got their message across.
A brilliant performance
Gulgong’s Prince of Wales Opera House came alive last Friday night with the sounds of Chopin and Debussy when Roger Woodward performed for an enthusiastic audience. This genius of the keyboards did not disappoint when he played his especially selected program on the beautiful old Steinway piano owned by the Gulgong MADS and kept in the Opera House. After the performance Roger joined the audience in a glass of wine and some nibblies as he signed his most recent book. Roger said “I have been performing concerts in the Gulgong Opera House since1984 and I am honoured to think I am in the company of such a great performer as Dame Nellie Melba who regularly performed here.” “I look forward to my next visit to this beautiful town” He said.
For the farmers
Sisters Toni Morrison and Cecily Walters have been thinking of ways to join the current movement of help for our neighbours, friends and community who live on the land. They are inviting our local farmers (male and female) who would like a couple of hours fun, creativity and lots of laughs and some company other than sheep, cattle, goats etc. to join them for a free felting workshop to be held at Toni’s studio 186. Participants at this free workshop (free for farmers only) will be amazed at the process of wet felting. They will create a unique, beautiful wool scarf that will be handy for these cold winter mornings. The workshop is on August 18 at 11am until 1pm and is being held at 186 Laheys Creek Road Gulgong. Gulgong Chamber of Commerce
Their AGM will be on August 14 at the Gulgong RSL Club Herbert Street Gulgong. The AGM will follow the general meeting which will take place at 5.30pm.
