This club is organized by ex-Principal of Gulgong Public School, Alan Walker (who was instrumental in the success of the Gulgong Paparazzi Club) and will access member expertise of the Cudgegong Camera Club in Mudgee.
The intention of the club is to cater for and build on the on-going interest in photography in Gulgong among students, particularly ex- Gulgong Public School’s Paparazzi Club and adults who would like a chance to explore photography as an interest. Beginners will be specifically catered for and a limited number of cameras will be available to use.
The new Gulgong Pixters Photo Club had a busy inauguration this year at the Henry Lawson Heritage Weekend where despite the rain a large number of visitors enjoyed the wonderful activities of this weekend in and around Gulgong district.
The Pixters were ensconced in the brand new Holtermann Museum façade taking souvenir photos for visitors. The visitors were delighted with their souvenir photos in heritage costume taken against the large mural of Canadian Lead in 1872. Other photos were taken in front of the reproduction of Sam Hands Boarding House from Home Rule in 1872 and these too were well received.
The Gulgong Paparazzi Club have achieved a remarkable record this year with three of their members receiving first, second and third in the under 14 years Photography Section at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. These 11 and 12 year old students gained the following achievements: Sigrid Germon first, Lara Copper second and Sanahya-Grace Brackenrig third. What a wonderful result! The Pixters meet on the third Monday at 6pm in the Gulgong CWA Hall. Next meeting is August 20 and Alan suggested you bring a coat as they will be walking around the town experimenting with night photography.
Top dogs on show
The annual Mudgee and District dog show and trials will be held this year on August 11-12 at Victoria Park in Gulgong. There will be a great variety of dog breeds on display in the show rings and many entrants travel a great distance to come compete in Gulgong each year.
In the trial rings there will be some of the most clever dogs and handlers from all over NSW competing. In the obedience rings there will be heelwork, retrieving, jumping and scenting amongst the numerous exercises to be undertaken. Entry to watch the shows and trials is free and refreshments will be available at the grounds.
