Known as a ‘Reverse Vending Machine’ (RVM), the station will let residents get 10 cents for each aluminium can they return. You will also be able to choose a local charity or community group to send the refund to instead.
The Mudgee RVM has a limit of 500 cans in any one transaction.
A spokesperson from Mid-Western Regional Council clarified the facilities that TOMRA Cleanway provide.
“TOMRA Cleanaway is the network operator for the Return and Earn container deposit scheme in NSW,”
“TOMRA provides the reverse vending machines and technology for receiving the returned containers, while Cleanaway delivers the logistics and sorting of collected containers.”

The Mudgee Guardian asked TOMRA Cleanaway when residents can expect to be using the RVM.
“TOMRA Cleanaway has reached an agreement with Mid-Western Regional Council to place a Reverse Vending Machine at Jubilee Oval,” a NSW EPA spokesperson said.
“Council has approved contractors who are scheduled to begin work on installing the RVM next week (August 13-17), which involves extensive excavation, concreting and electrical works.”
This date technically falls within the 6-8 weeks timeline given back in June when Troy Grant made a surprise announcement that a location had been settled on.
A location at Byron Place was initially highlighted as a suitable location, but was rejected by council due to a decrease in car parks by six to eight spots.
When the location was revealed as west Mudgee, some commenters on social media were concerned that the RVM would be victim to vandalism, however a spokesperson for Mid-Western Regional Council said they are confident there will not be any issues.
