In the first half the feature game of Round 17 of Christie and Hood Castlereagh League, the Terriers had the use of the wind, but it was to be the Panthers who went to the sheds holding down, what appeared to be at the time, a very handy lead with the scoreboard reading 14 to 6 in their favour, and the benefit of the breeze soon to be coming their way.
However the Panthers seemed to largely ignore any advantage that the wind presented to them and they were content to plug it up through the forwards after being far more adventurous in attack in the first stanza.
The Terriers on the other hand returned to the field full of running and it didn’t take them long to score two tries and lock the scores up at 14 all, before they went on with the job to get out to 28 to 14, with the Panther’s only scoring in the second half coming in the last minute to make the final score 28 to 18.
It was an impressive display by the Terriers, and one that would have shortened their premiership odds quite considerably.
The next time the two teams meet, which will be in the major semi final at Billy Dunn Park. Both sides will sit out the final round of the regular season this weekend with byes.
Dunedoo has third place on the ladder sewn up despite going down 36 to 18 to Cobar. Their opponents for the minor semi final will be confirmed this weekend when the Roosters travel to Binnaway, with both sides level on 19 points.
