Paul Davies, aged 47, of Barigan Street, Wollar, was fined $110.
At about 2.45pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, police passed his vehicle on the Ulan Road at Mudgee and turned around to stop him to conduct a random breath test.
As they changed direction Davies drove into Bombira Estate in an attempt to avoid them.
He admitted to officers he didn’t have a licence and a check found that his Queensland licence was cancelled in September for demerit points.
In court Magistrate David Day told Davies “so many criminal records begin with driving offences”.
Henry Maluatai Kupa, aged 20, of Auburn Road, Auburn – who had a previous charge of ‘Never licensed person drive vehicle on road’ – was fined $660 and disqualified for three months.
At about 7.16am on Sunday, June 10, 2018, police stopped him on the Sydney Road, Mudgee, for exceeding the speed limit.
Kupa told officers he left his licence at home and that it was a Tongan licence, but as questioning continued he revealed that he’s lived in Australia all his life.
He produced a proof of age and a check of his identity showed that he’s never been licensed and that he was also charged in January.
When representing himself in court, Kupa was asked why he was driving and replied “I thought it was safer” than his passenger.
However, Magistrate Day countered, “I think it’s very unsafe, you’ve never demonstrated that you know the road rules or the capability. What’s more, you’re a slow learner because you’ve got a previous charge”.
