When Ken Sutcliffe first came into the Mudgee Guardian office and pitched me on an idea he had. I could tell straight away we had something special.
We know farmers out there are doing it tough, and Mudgee and the rest of Australia have been amazing in providing support, supplies and transport to those affected by drought.
But this day is different.
It is the culmination of many individuals and groups around the region and even beyond.
On Sunday, September 2, running adjacent to the race meeting, a special day like no other will be held at the Mudgee Racecourse, and it’s all about the farmers and their families.
In other news:
Hugh Bateman, Colleen and Max Walker (with the Mudgee Race Club), Ken Sutcliffe and many others have worked together to bring a day of food, drinks, carnival rides, music and entertainment to the Mudgee Racecourse.
If you’re a farming family and want to attend, all you need to do is turn up, it couldn’t be easier. How do you prove you’re a farmer? You don’t need to, they trust no one would take advantage of such an event.
There will be no hands in pockets, no fundraisers. Simply a day that the community can show support for farmers and their families, no matter where you hail from.
That’s right, you don’t even have to be from the Mudgee area, any and all are welcome.
Jess Holland will be a part of the event, signing sultry tunes all day, and not to missed, entertainer Paul Costa who is travelling from the Victorian border will be here too.
A big event like this wouldn’t be complete without amazing food, and thanks to De Costi Seafood from Sydney, it will be just that.
They are bringing an entire truck of seafood to Mudgee direct from Sydney specially for the event, again, only for the farmers and their families.
Mid-Western Regional Council has also agreed to give $5000 towards the event from the community grants fund.
All of this just goes to show how much work has gone into the day and how much the community is behind it.
I really hope to see you there. You deserve it. Oh and there will be some racing too.
