Among many others, those are three of the major plus sides to Mudgee’s Parkview Hotel, a venue that was recently deemed the region’s best place to go for deluxe accommodation.
Peter and Debbie Eldrid have owned the business for a mere 17 months and are already being rewarded for their excellent business-management skills, the most recent accolade coming at the Regional Tourism Awards.
The seven-room sanctuary is located on 99 Market street and was transformed from an empty, rundown building to a deluxe accommodation destination.
“We’re in such a good spot, here,” Debbie said.
“It’s only a block from the main street and we’ve got the coffee house right next to us. It’s lovely for people to wake up and have a tea, coffee or breaky there. A lot of locals come in and use the cafe too.
As for the confines of each of the seven rooms, Peter and Debbie put themselves in the customers’ shoes and tried to provide their visitors with all of the little things they look for when staying away from home.
“We’ve doubled up on everything you need,” Debbie said.
“We have robes, slippers, extra towels, extra toilets rolls…. we’ve got the TV with Netflix. We try to incorporate everything comfort related that we can.
“We’re very fussy ourselves so the hotel’s very clean and we’ve got very proud cleaners that keep it nice. We owe them a big thank you for that.”
A proud aspect of the hotel is the accessibility room which is designed to feel as close a regular room as possible, while still being comfortable and convenient for handicapped guests.
It’s wheelchair accessible with lowered sinks and a slightly different bathroom but the feel of this particular room is the same as all the others.
“We didn’t want it to feel any different to the other rooms,” Debbie said.
“Regular guests have stayed in the room before and loved it.”
Peter and Debbie have run a local fridge business for nearly 40 years but prior to taking over Parkview, had very little experience in the world of accommodation.
That hasn’t stopped the duo from putting together an award-winning establishment and the two of them hope to continue a succesful ownership of Mudgee’s premier deluxe accommodation spot.
