Fifteen schools will bring a record total of 700 children to the Mudgee Showgrounds to be challenged, encouraged and educated.
‘War on Waste’ is this year’s primary message with special guest Craig Reucassel – from the ABC’s Logie winning War on Waste program – being a perfect choice to enthuse students about reducing their waste footprint. See below.
“We are excited to have some well-known organisations coming over to talk at Green Day such as Take 3, OzHarvest and Clean up Australia,” Green Day coordinator Beth Greenfield said.
“OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation and Take 3 is an initiative to stop waste from entering into our oceans. Their representatives will also be joining us for the evening and can contribute to the discussion about how positive change can be made in our own community.
“The fantastic thing about Green Day is that we have so many volunteers willing to get on board and help share their knowledge with the district’s children. Local business owners, artists, consultants, educators, Council employees, Local Land Services and Vinnies will all willingly lend a hand to teach children about the environment.
“Speakers are presenting a diverse range of topics within the waste theme including recycled fashion, food waste, litter in our waste water and storm water systems, micro-plastics, waste art, recycling and reuse and waste decomposition.”
Viv Howard, chairperson Watershed Landcare, added, “we have been very fortunate to have been supported over the years with generous sponsorship from Mid-Western Regional Council, Local Land Services, Moolarben Coal Operations and Peabody Energy”.
“This sponsorship allows for the event, along with bus transport, to be offered to all schools completely free and helps attract exceptional speakers to Mudgee,” she said.
Craig definitely not wasting trip to Mudgee
With Craig Reucassel heading to Mudgee for Green Day on September 13, Watershed Landcare also wanted to give the rest of the community the opportunity to meet with him and hear his message.
Limited tickets are available for an evening with Craig Reucassel at Roth’s Wine Bar on Wednesday, September 12.
