Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disease that leads to the degenerations of muscles in the human body.
The disease takes form in childhood, and although treatment can help, there is no cure.
Once a year, Telstra employees dress up as superheros to raise much needed funds for those diagnosed with the disease.
In a suitable metaphor, superheros can fight through anything and so can you, Store Manager of Telstra Mudgee, Dylan Hogan said the fundraising is definitely worth the while.
“The reason why we do it is to try and give the kids more hope that although they have a disease that they can’t control, they still need support, plus all of the fundraising brings them one step closer to a cure,” he said.
The Mudgee Telstra store had been fundraising for two whole months and held a sausage sizzle on Friday, 7 September to raise even more awareness.
Local businesses also made donations to the fundraiser by donating products. McDonald’s Bakery donated bread for the sausage sizzle, Perry Street Meats donated sausages, and Coles donated a voucher to put towards soft drinks.
“If we can give the kids just that little bit of extra help to get them through things then that’s great,” Mr Hogan said.
Muscular Dystrophy week, also known as National Superhero Week, was celebrated from the 3 to 9 September, 2018.
“Superheros are those that are always tough and strong and can do anything, so if the kids can do that then the sky's the limit.”
