Mid-western Regional Council is advising motorists that Goodiman Creek Bridge on Mebul Road, near Gulgong, will be closed to traffic from today (September 11) as construction begins on a new structure.
An alternate route will be in place but motorists may still experience short delays due to the construction.
Council secured $307,500 through the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program to replace the existing one lane timber bridge with a two lane concrete bridge.
The new bridge will be higher than the existing bridge which will reduce the frequency that the road is closed during flood events which result in lengthy detours.
Council says this project will be a significant improvement on safety for road users, in particular the local school bus that delivers school children to and from Gulgong and Mudgee each day.
Works are due to take approximately three to four months weather permitting.
