Watershed Landcare has been hosting Green Day for local school children for the past 10 years. During this time over five and half thousand children have visited the Mudgee Showground to learn about environmental themes such as biodiversity, energy, waste and water.

On Thursday, September 13, more than 800 Year 5 and 6 students will take part in this year’s Green Day focusing on the theme, Go WoW or Go (make a difference) War on Waste.

ABC television host, Craig Reucassel, will be this year’s keynote speaker.

“Craig’s second series of War on Waste, currently airing on ABC TV, is a timely backdrop to our event. Other guest presenters include Clean Up Australia, Oz Harvest, and Take 3, as well as members of our local community,” Watershed Landcare chair, Vivian Howard, said.

“We will have over 25 speakers and workshop presenters giving the children a broad appreciation of the scale of the waste issue, and importantly, how they can do their bit to tackle the problem.”

Students will be encouraged to identify how they can make a difference at home, school and in their community.

“Green Day will start with an official welcome and opening and a special cake cutting ceremony to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Students will then break into smaller groups for the sessions and rotate through the workshops, including the key note session with Craig,” Ms Howard said.

The Watershed Landcare Green Day is supported by Central Tablelands Local Land Services, Mid-Western Regional Council, Peabody Energy, and Moolarben Coal.

Green Day 2018 will be take place at Mudgee Showgrounds from 10am to 2pm on Thursday.
