Mudgee man fined for possession of cannabis and having a knife in a public place

A 31-year-old man was fined a total of $330 in Mudgee Local Court last Wednesday, for possession of cannabis and having a knife in a public place after police pulled him over.

Adam John Hockley of Headley Place, Mudgee, was stopped by officers at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in Gladstone Street.

During questioning he revealed that he’d been at a house suspected of drug activity.

Hockley picked up a rolled up shirt and when police asked him about it, he told them “I may as well give this to you then”.

It contained 7g grams of cannabis.

A 15cm knife was found during a search of the vehicle. He said he had this because, “it makes me feel better, I’ve got a dodgy car that breaks down”.

In court Magistrate David Day told the defendant, “until the law changes it’s still illegal to possess cannabis”. Adding, “and you don’t have a clean copy book”.
