Mayso’s Pro Shop will defend their A grade men’s title against Edmunds Interior Predators after an easy win over a severely under strength Lawson Park in the final 76-19.
Lawson Park, with Jordan Woolmer and Chris Spinner unavailable, were never in the hunt against the defending premiers, conceding the match to the rampaging Mayso’s Pro Shop at the end of the third quarter.
From the start of the competition, Lawson Park struggled to get their top team on the court on a weekly basis, only a win over Mayso’s in their very last game of the regular season pushing them into the A grade play offs.
But after last week’s landslide in the final, the stage is now set for a titanic struggle between two teams that finished level on the ladder and with a match-up record of a win each, 62-44 Edmunds way in the first encounter while Mayso’s took the honours in the second clash, a thrilling 57-55 result.
There are reports that both teams may be without players due to work and personal commitments, but such is the depth of their line ups this is unlikely to diminish the entertainment value or skills that will be on show from the opening whistle.
Ben Edmunds will no doubt be the key to a Predators win with his rebounding at both ends and ability score points when under pressure, Mayso’s Pro Shop no doubt cooking up a plan to shut him down.
Mayso’s defence however, not only must succeed against Edmunds, but also Anthony Hamson, Zac Burley, Nathan Martyn and Manual Tavita, all quite capable of steering Predators to victory and in turn this year’s spoils.
While the Edmunds team is a formidable combination their opposition is no less so and man-for-man probably just shade Predators across the court.
Adam Keightley generally saves his best for the big games, his shot making from anywhere on the court, and his rebounding nous, will go a long way to claiming a win for the defending premiers, Mayso’s Pro Shop.
But that doesn’t mean the Mayso’s outfit is a one-man band – far from it.
Peter Mayson can set up his team mates with deft passes, and is good for a triple or four, Matt Hicks is strong off the boards and Liam Young has been among the top scorers for his team during the season.
If the above players a little off their game, Edmunds will then have to stop Dean Saxby weaving his way through the defence for his trademark lay ups or pulling up for a triple when least expected.
All is in readiness another drama filled, action packed encounter between the two teams at 3.15.
