A record crowd of more than 11,000 people turned out for the seventh annual Flavours of Mudgee street festival on Saturday.
For the thousands that flocked to Mudgee’s CBD which was specially closed for the event, the best food and wine of the Mudgee region was on offer across more than 70 stalls.
Mid-Western Regional Council General Manager Brad Cam said Flavours of Mudgee continues to exceed attendance and economic value to the region.
“This is our largest crowd yet and I am proud to report that data captured on the evening demonstrates more than 50 per cent of event attendees were visitors to the region.
“By our estimates that’s a $2 million injection into the local economy.
“On behalf of Council I’d like that thank all the businesses, stallholders, volunteers, Mudgee Region Tourism and Destination NSW for making Flavours of Mudgee 2018 a resounding success.”
And it wasn’t just food that attracted crowds. An entertainment highlight for many on the night was the live brass Hot Potato Band.
Simon Ghali, manager and drummer in the Hot Potato Band said they loved playing in Mudgee for their second Flavours gig.
“Being able to play for so many people that are just in a fantastic mood and enjoying the sights and sounds is a really great place to be in,” he said.
Flavours of Mudgee is developed with grant funding provided through Destination NSW’s Regional Flagship Events Program.
The success of this year’s event comes after Flavours of Mudgee received the Local Government NSW, RH Dougherty Award for Innovation in Special Events.
Held on the fourth Saturday of September each year, Flavours of Mudgee 2019 will be held on Saturday, 28 September.
